It’s 100 Days ‘til Christmas and it’s all about caring and giving at SM Supermalls

The past years have always had us counting down to the most wonderful time of the year when the ‘ber’ months roll in; Christmas carols fill the air, dazzling tree lights dot the streets, shopping for gifts becomes a sport, and everyone else goes on a diet to make way for Christmas feasts.

This year may not be as festive as previous years, but it will most certainly be more meaningful. SM showed us the most uplifting way to best celebrate the season with “100 Days of Caring”;  featuring 100 days of spreading love, thoughtfulness, and care for one another and for the communities surrounding our favorite SM malls. The virtual event showcasing the pledges happened Thursday, Sept 16, 2021 over FB Live and WatchSM on YouTube.

“100 days of Caring”. To kickstart the Christmas countdown, SM pledged to donate to over 10,000 beneficiaries, namely communities in need, hardworking SM employees, medical frontliners and dedicated delivery partners, among others. Some of the beneficiaries and their partner malls are as follows:

‘Gift’ for your mental health. Aside from our physical health being at risk during a pandemic, our mental health is also affected due to the stress and anxiety these times bring. And since SM believes in the value of taking care of our mental health, Dr Gia Sison, MD DPCOM gave a  ‘Call to Share’ talk during the virtual launch. Dr Gia Sison is a mental health advocate and co-founder of PH Leader Livestrong Foundation. Her talk centered on how to cope during this stressful time and still find hope in a better tomorrow.

100 voices that care. If there’s one thing that binds us all Filipinos together, it’s our passion and love for music. While we may not be allowed to have big gatherings this year, SM entertained the audience with the performance of the 3 Divas – Rahda, Frenchie and Bituin Escalante; later on joined by 100 artists, singers, and SM employees and stakeholders who came together to sing during the virtual launch on Sept 16.

We may be in the middle of a pandemic, times may be tough, and many of us may be physically apart, but let’s not forget what this season truly means. To view the event, go to WatchSM on YouTube.

GCash, Hope and Century Pacific plant 1M coconut trees to boost farmers’ income

GCash, the Philippines’ leading mobile wallet, together with the non-profit organization HOPE, and Century Pacific Food, one of the country’s largest branded food companies, will be working together to fund the planting of 1 million coconut trees in the provinces of South Cotabato and Sarangani. This will be done via GForest, the environmental protection feature on the GCash app. This marks the first time that a GForest tree-planting initiative will be implemented in Mindanao, extending the app's reach nationwide, and helping thousands of farmers in the province.

HOPE has been working to provide agriculture interventions such as replanting, farmer training, intercropping, and increasing market access to smallholder farmers in Mindanao since 2014. To date, they have distributed over 100,000 quality seedlings to over 10,000 smallholder farmers in the region.

With this tree-planting partnership, the farmers are expected to increase their nut yield by 55% and their income from coconuts by 90%. It will also have a positive effect on female farmers, who comprise 40% of the farmers in the program. The project will cover the areas of Sarangani, Banga, Surallah, Norala, Koronadal, General Santos City, Malungon, Glan, Alabel, Maasim, Kiamba, Maitum, Polomolok, Tampakan, and Tupi.

“We are excited to partner with HOPE and Century Pacific as we work together to promote environmental sustainability, and support farmers in South Cotabato and Sarangani. Through this program that will be implemented via GForest, we now have planting sites in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. We are committed to promote environmental stewardship through GForest, as we seamlessly integrate this with GCash’s innovative cashless technology,” said GCash President and CEO Martha Sazon.

GForest allows customers to take an active role in helping mother nature through tree planting. GCash users can do this by collecting enough green energy to plant virtual trees. When users plant a virtual tree, GCash then plants a real tree, which users may select on the app. GForest users earn green energy points by using various cashless services of GCash. Through sending money, paying bills or buying load in the app, users are awarded green energy points for adopting a lifestyle that reduces their carbon footprint.

“We are grateful for this partnership with GCash and Century Pacific as it expands our reach and intensifies our efforts toward sustainability and environmental protection. Through this initiative, we are able to reach out to millions of GCash users, encouraging them to preserve the environment while helping to support smallholder farmers,” said Nanette Medved, HOPE chairperson and president.

Since 2019, 7.7 million registered users have “gone green” using the GForest feature on the GCash app. To date, more than 560,000 trees have been planted in various parts of the Philippines.

"This partnership with HOPE is a big boost to our GForest program as it will bring us closer to our sustainability goal of having a "greener Philippines" simply by promoting cashless transactions,” said Chito Maniago, GCash’s Vice President of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs.

Since 2018, GCash has been actively involved in promoting a greener Philippines. It partnered with the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) for the reforestation initiatives in the Visayas. GCash users with energy points can adopt different species of trees to save them. RAFI, through its One to Tree Program Unit which encourages communities to help protect and rehabilitate the environment, is involved in establishing native tree nurseries and tree plantations in Cebu.

Easy makeup tricks to try with Careline Multi Sticks

Are you one for simple and uncomplicated makeup? Or just starting out and don’t know the proper makeup techniques? Luckily, there is a product that’s user-friendly and don’t require much (or any!) tools for a quick beauty fix. That’s Careline’s Multi Sticks (P196).

They’re available in a creamy formula that are made to blur, correct, conceal, contour, highlight, and add color. So grab those Multi Sticks and try out these easy makeup tricks:

Make makeup last longer. Use the Blur Stick as a primer so your makeup stays on longer. Apply them on areas like the T-zone and cheeks to minimize pores and help the products mesh well on the skin.

Conceal under your eyes with an inverted triangle shape. With the Brighten Stick, draw the base of the triangle under your lower lash line and the tip on the apples of the cheek. Gently dab product with your clean finger until blended seamlessly on the skin. This conceals any redness and shadows to create an illusion of brighter under eyes.

Use the Contour Stick handle as a contour guide. We all have different face shapes. To determine where you should be placing your contour, roll the Contour Stick handle below your cheek bone. Once you’ve found the correct placement, mark with the contour and blend to smudge out harsh lines.

Shorten your beauty routine with the 3-in-one Color Sticks. One of the easiest ways to add a healthy glow to the face is to add color on the eyes, cheeks, and lips. Try it with the Careline Rose Stick or Peach Stick. Make sure to blend well to make it appear more natural.

Try these easy-to-use products from Careline and look beautiful any time of the day. Careline Multi Sticks are available on Careline’s official page on Shopee (bit.ly/CarelineShopee) and Lazada (bit.ly/CarelineLazada). Meet unMEAT, the 100% plant-based meat

It’s a generally accepted notion that eating healthy means skipping great-tasting food.

Not anymore. Now it’s completely possible to enjoy the best of both worlds as Century Pacific Food Inc. (CNPF), one of the largest branded food companies in the Philippines, unveils its newest brand: unMEAT, a 100% plant-based meat, made tasty from simple ingredients.

“One of the biggest concerns about plant-based foods is that they are not delicious or as pleasing to the palate as real meat,” notes Nikki Dizon, a Senior Executive at CNPF. “But our Nutrition Science team took that as a challenge, and completely delivered by coming up with a meat alternative that unbelievably and undeniably looks, feels, and tastes like meat. Moreover, they made unMEAT using simple ingredients and extracted the nutrients from real food rather than synthetic compounds so it’s healthier and more affordable”

The launch of unMEAT was driven by a growing consumer demand to incorporate healthier food options into their diet, especially given the ongoing pandemic. This is evident in the shift of food trends on social media. Whereas in the past, food aficionados across the globe constantly debated on the best burgers, social media is now filled with discussions on which plant-based burger looks, tastes, smells, and even bleeds like real meat.

With unMEAT, taste is never compromised! It is as delicious as a regular meat patty, with a similar mouth-feel, making it the best meat alternative for those who are planning to make the switch to a healthier, more sustainable diet. Even better, unMEAT is packed with simple but nutritious ingredients. It is a good source of fiber and protein. It’s also cholesterol-free, trans fat-free, egg-free, and dairy-free.

During the launch, Michelin star chef Sau del Rosario who was among the first to sample unMEAT, described it as “the taste is like you got it from the oven. It’s tasty, it’s clean, and it’s very delicious. I would put this in my menu!”

UNMEAT four variants: How much is Unmeat?

·      UNMEAT Nuggets Php120.

·      UNMEAT Hungarian Sausages Php135.

·      UNMEAT Minced Meat Php120.

·      UNMEAT Burger Patty Php135.

Where to buy UNMEAT food products?

Available in selected supermarkets and specialty stores and will soon be available in your favorite grocery stores nationwide. You could also order online here:

CNPF aims to market the range as close to the price of real meat counterparts in keeping with its goal of providing affordable nutrition.

In the Philippines, unMEAT was first introduced through Shakey’s Pizza’s newest offering, the Goood Burger. It has since attracted a small cult following in the few weeks it has top-billed Shakey’s Pizza chain’s foray to burgers.

Now, as the plant-based food mania continues to sweep the world over, Century Pacific Food Inc., is giving consumers easy access to healthy and tasty 100% plant-based food options as unMEAT is now available via online shopping platforms, and increasingly in supermarkets and specialty stores nationwide.

Following unMEAT’s successful initial rollout as Shakey’s Goood Burger, CNFP will also be partnering with more restaurants in the country. Additionally, the company’s Global Brands Team has started offering the product to customers across a network of 80 countries such as the USA, Singapore, China and the Middle East giving consumers in many parts of the world easy access to tasty, healthy, and affordable 100% plant-based meat alternative.

“This newest addition to our product portfolio further strengthens our company’s mission to provide affordable nutrition for all. UnMEAT is both very affordable and delicious!” added Dizon.

Now it’s possible to be healthy while enjoying what you eat with the 100% plant-based unMEAT.

PBB Housemates undergo COVID-19 Testing with Maxicare's LAB on Wheels

To ensure that housemates for the new season of Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) are all safe from COVID-19, Maxicare LAB on Wheels successfully conducted Antigen Testing for all members of the House, as part of the show’s health protocols.

Maxicare LAB on Wheels successfully conducted Antigen Testing for the Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) housemates.

Being the first PBB season to be held under the new normal, auditions were held online, and safety measures were strictly observed before entering the house. These include medical, psychological, and COVID-19 testing.

Adhering to Maxicare’s stringent health standards, the Antigen Tests were administered by PPE-geared registered medical technologists and nurses.

“The goal is to limit unnecessary contact and exposure,” says a Maxicare staff member who facilitated the testing process. “Each housemate entered the testing room one by one then they went to their respective rooms as soon as the tests were done. For maximum protection, all housemates were required to wear face masks and face shields.”

The entire process, from testing to releasing of results, took only around 2 hours.

PBB Housemates Chico Alicano (left) and Jie-Ann Armero (right) during the antigen testing as part of the show’s health protocols prior to the premiere of its new season.

The tests were made possible through Maxicare LAB on Wheels, Maxicare’s fully equipped mobile health vans for COVID-19 (Roche Antibody Test, Antigen Test, and RTPCR Test) and routine blood testing. Now, patients no longer have to wade through the traffic or wait in crowded rooms for hours. Maxicare would be the one who will come and visit the preferred location within Metro Manila, ensuring that the group meets the entire minimum requirement.

Each mobile health van has a testing capacity of up to 100 people per day. Maxicare LAB on Wheels also offers access to Telemedicine video consultation, uses an electronic medical record system, and sends the results via email.

Just like how Maxicare took care of the PBB housemates, it aims to reach more Filipinos so they can live their best lives wherever they are.

Want to book Maxicare LAB on Wheels? You may contact your Maxicare Health Benefit Executive or Maxicare Business Development Manager! We’ll attend to you right away if the activity or your company qualifies. For other inquiries, you may email Maxicare at customercare@maxicare.com.ph.
